Berlin

Berlin is the largest city in Germany both in area and population. British after London, Berlin is the second largest city in the European Union. Berlin ranks fifth among the largest cities in Europe.

Around the year 1200 on the site of modern Berlin offers two trading settlements – Cologne and Berlin . The exact date is unknown they have received. Berlin was the capital of Prussia and after the creation of the German Empire became its capital. Berlin is one of 16 Federal lands in Germany.

The city’s population is 3.5 million people. Berlin is located on the river banks of the spree river (connected with it ’s nickname” Berlin “Spree-Athen” — “Athens on the spree”) and Havel in the center of the Federal state of Brandenburg, part of which he is not (since 1920).

From Berlin take your breath away. It has the tempo. Berlin is dynamic and changes every day. Get introduced to Berlin and with it, an incomparable culture, legendary nightlife, green oases and lakes. Take a stroll through Berlin, take a look at the most beautiful buildings of the city and see how changes daily Berlin, remaining unchanged.

Potsdam square (Potsdamer Platz) – Berlin area, built with high-rise buildings, which was built on unpopulated place. Observation deck on top of the building Algophagous offers visitors stunning views of the area DaimlerChrysler(Daimler Chrysler) and Sony (Sony), the roof of which is designed in a futuristic style.

In Berlin there are new embassies and ministries, but the special interest of the guests of Berlin calls the new dome of the Reichstag, where you can climb to the top. This dome is not only a distinctive mark of Berlin, but also because of its transparency is the symbol of the city.

There is hardly another large city with so many green spaces as Berlin . In the middle of town is the Tiergarten Park — green lagoon city, which in summer turns into a huge grill area.

In the South-West of Berlin, the Grunewald, you’ll be inviting guests for a walk on the air, on foot or by bike. Numerous colorful lakes in Berlin and the surrounding area is ideal for outdoor recreation, sunbathing and boat trips.

In Berlin there is a place to turn the shower and turn away from the bustle, for example, on the lakes Wannsee or the Müggelsee beach is right in town. You can indulge in exotic dreams in the Botanical garden surrounded by tropical plants. In the Zoological garden are a wide variety of animal species, special attention deserves also the aquarium with its unique colourful paintings of the underwater world.

The purchase of real estate in Berlin, the analysts of the European Union called the most reliable investment. But fret not: the local market is more heterogeneous than – from luxury villas to multi-million vacant, abandoned “dead” areas. Berlin, unlike most European metropolises, has no single center. First, as a heritage of separation remained of Eastern and Western centres of Berlin, respectively, the area of the Zoo and Alexander Platz.

Secondly, these two centers have already equated the Potsdamer Platz (the city center). And, finally, thirdly, each more or less large area of Berlin tries to declare your exact center the main and only Central for the individual residents. This polycentrism must be taken into account, setting the stage for a speech about the Berlin real estate market

Berlin: a bit of history

It is known that the settlements on the territory of modern Berlin appeared about 9 thousand years ago. In accordance with germanophilia theories, about 700 BC there were settled Germanic tribes and in the 6th and 7th centuries BC when “the Germans withdrew from the area,”, appeared West Slavic tribes.

However, there are other theories – that the land of Berlin and Polaria in General, the Slavic people emerged as such, evolving from an earlier Indo-European commonalities, and are the indigenous population of these lands.

The city of Berlin originated from a pair of Berlin – Cologne. Cologne was located on an island on the river spree and Berlin in front of him, on the Eastern shore. Cologne was first mentioned in 1237 (28.10), Berlin in 1244 (26.01). In 1307, the two cities were built and are United by a common hall.

According to one version, the name “Berlin” (German “Bär– — bear) has nothing to do with the bear pictured on today’s emblem of the city. Most likely the word dates back to the polabian berl-/birl-, “the swamp”. According to another version, the name comes from a Slavic word meaning “bar” — bear.
